Falcons Sweep MCLA in MASCAC Baseball Action

 

Northboro, Mass. –The Fitchburg State University baseball team swept the Trailblazers of MCLA 10-0, 10-0 in a two game set in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

How It Happened - Game 1

The Falcons' bats were hot in game one collecting three home run to down MCLA 10-0. Freshman Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) gave pitcher Richard Sharp (Townsend, Mass.) all the runs he would need with a deep drive to centerfield platting Timothy Horton (Northampton, Mass.) for the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Fitchburg State added two more runs in the second frame with back-to-back RBI doubles from junior Brandon Lefebvre (Leominster, Mass.) and sophomore Nicholas Cordeau (Melrose, Mass.) to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Eramo led off the third inning with a single to left and came around to score on Brennan Cuddahy's (Leominster, Mass.) first home run of the season over the right field fence.

After adding a run in the fourth inning Cordeau finished off the scoring when he crushed the ball deep to left field for a 3-run home run and the 10-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Cordeau was 3-for-4 , 2 doubles, a home run and 5 RBI
  • Sharp collected his third win of the season, with a 7 inning complete game shutout. He had 5 strikeouts and scattered two hits on the day, not allowing a base runner past second base.
  •  Senior Jeff Bink (Albany, NY) and sophomore Jake Ferrara (East Haven, Conn.) had the hits for MCLA
  • Bobby New (Pittsfield, Mass.) was tagged with the loss for the visitors, he surrendered 6 earned runs over 3.1 innings.

 How It Happened - Game 2

 The Falcons continued with a solid start in game two. Tim Horton delivered a 2-RBI single to centerfield platting teammates Brett Spano (Hanson, Mass.) and Vincent Eramo. The hosts were up 3-0 after one.

Junior Joshua Macomber (Berkley, Mass.) belted a home run to left field in the bottom of the third frame to push the advantage to 4-0.

In the fourth and fifth inning the Green and Gold would plate four more runs. Eramo collected another RBI with a single to center field in the fourth inning, while Johan Asencio (Clinton, Mass.) laced a double down the left field line to give the Falcons a 8-0 lead after five complete.

Two more runs in the sixth led to the 10-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Fitchburg State's Macomber had three hits, with a home run and 2 RBI. Horton was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI
  • MCLA's Ferrara notched two of MCLA's five hits in game 2
  • Fitchburg's Tommy Parsons (Peabody, Mass.) had the win on the mound, the senior threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Senior Brendan Kelley (Averill Park, NY) took the loss for the visitors.
