Hemmings stops 14 shots in non-conference setback
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Engineers of WPI this afternoon in non-conference action at Elliot Field.

How It Happened
WPI grabbed the lead at the 11:07 mark as junior Becca Hapgood (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) collected a rebounded shot and fired a shot inside the near post for her third tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.
The Engineers doubled their margin (2-0) in the 25th minute of play when sophomore Leah Beauton (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) received a feed from classmate Sophia Orrico (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) and found the back of the net for her second marker on the year.
The visitors upped their advantage with ten minutes remaining in the first half as freshman Rayna Basma (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spacenkill) connected on her first collegiate tally to make the score 3-0 going into the break.
In the second half, WPI extend its lead at the 75:07 mark when Beauton connected on her second goal of the contests, resulting in the 4-0 final.
Inside the Numbers
This afternoon's contest marks the 23rd meeting between the two teams on the pitch with the Falcons 5-18-0 all-time when taking on the Engineers.
WPI has the last six matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 3-0 decision last season at Alumni Field.
WPI finished with a 28-7 margin in shots, while also holding a slim 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, sophomore Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) stopped 14 shots for the Falcons in the setback, while junior Mandy St. Germain (Upton, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) made three second half saves in 45:00 minutes of action for the Engineers.
Sophomore Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) registered a team-best three shots on frame for Fitchburg State.
Falcons will travel to Elms College on Wednesday to take on the Blazers for a non-conference matchup, starting at 7:00 PM. Engineers will host the Rams of Framingham State University on Sunday for a 1:00 pm start.
