Falcons Drop Non-Conference Match To Bulldogs

Pease finishes with match best 23 digs for Falcons in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Bulldogs of Dean College in non-conference action this evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

Senior libero Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) paced the Falcons with a match-best 23 digs, one kill, one assist and two service aces, while junior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass.) added 18 digs, two kills, one assist and two solo blocks. Senior Kathryn McGroarty (Quincy, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, posting six digs and six assists.

For Dean College, freshman outside hitter Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Conn.) led the way for the Bulldog, finishing with 12 digs, 11 kills, one assist and one solo block, while sophomore Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alto, Puerto Rico) chipped in with 15 assists, 14 digs, three service aces and two kills. Sophomore Sami Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.) put forth a strong outing for the visitors as well, notching a team-leading 17 digs, two kills, one assist and one service ace.

Inside the Numbers

Second ever meeting between the two schools on the volleyball court with the Falcons 0-2-0 when taking on the Bulldogs.

Dean College notched a 3-1 win over Fitchburg State in the first match up between the two schools on September 14, 2017 at Dean College earlier this season.

This evening was senior night and the Fitchburg State women's volleyball team honored three seniors playing in their final regular season home contest with the seniors being #6 Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.), #12 Kathryn McGroarty (Quincy, Mass.) and #19 Clara Watson (Ayer, Mass.).

Falcons will travel to Worcester State tomorrow to take on the Lancers and the Nichols College Bison in a tri-match, starting at 4 p.m. Dean College will visit Southern Vermont College on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
