Four second-period, power-play goals powered Fitchburg State as eight different players scored for the Falcons' balanced attack. Senior Patrick Dolan (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Jr. Blues) led the way with a goal and two assists, while junior Chris Riggs (Sewell, N.J./Fort Vancouver Pioneers), sophomore Bryan Canter (Anchorage, AK/Helena Bighorns) classmate Thomas McAleer (East Islip, N.Y./New York Bobcats) and freshman Trevor Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass./New England Jr. Huskies) each had a score and one helper..
Westfield took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Dylan Scanlon just 3:38 into the game, but the Falcons struck for three goals over a two minute span to take a 3-1 advantage at the 6:33 mark.
Westfield, who topped Fitchburg State 6-5 earlier in the season, closed within a goal on freshman Lucas Romero's marker at 7:19 of the first, but the Owls then self destructed, playing nearly the entire second period shorthanded. Westfield was whistled for 17 penalties, 15 of which were served in the second stanza and the Falcons took advantage, scoring four second-period goals for a commanding 7-2 lead.
Fitchburg State collected a 47-40 advantage in shots, while converting four of its power-plays. Sophomore Bobby Leiser (Monroe, N.Y./New York Applecore) improved to a league best 7-1-0 with 36 stops in net for the Falcons, while Ray Monroe (Shrewsbury, Mass./Springfield Jr. Falcons) stopped 38 shots for the Owls.
