Fitchburg State Athletics Compliance
ELIGIBILITY
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) requires all of its member institutions to administer their athletic programs in compliance with the rules and regulations of the NCAA.
All student-athletes at Fitchburg State University are obligated to abide by the NCAA, MASCAC, and University rules. The compliance officer will conduct an annual compliance meeting with each team at the beginning of their respective traditional seasons. This is a mandatory meeting for all student-athletes.
To be eligible to practice and compete, the following must be completed:
a) Speak to the head coach and be added to the tryout roster
b) Complete all necessary medical paperwork provided by the head athletic trainer
c) Register for at least 12 credit hours (full-time student) and meet all academic requirements
d) Complete all necessary NCAA-related paperwork provided by the compliance officer
e) Attend team compliance meeting before first competition
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
In order to practice or compete, you must carry 12 credit hours or more and be in good academic standing with the University.
* An exception to this rule is when an athlete is in his or her final semester of their baccalaureate program and the institution certifies that the student is carrying the courses necessary to complete the degree requirements.
All student-athletes are required to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible. Students with less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA may be placed on probation if their GPA equals or exceeds the standards for the total number of credit hours attempted at Fitchburg State and/or transferred:
| Credits Earned |
Cumulative GPA |
| 0-32 | 1.6 |
| 33-59 | 1.8 |
| 60+ | 2.0 |
A student athlete may only be placed on probation once throughout their career at Fitchburg State and still remain eligible to practice and compete. If a student athlete is on probation for a second time, they will be ineligible to practice or compete with the team until they become academically eligible again.
