Softball Picked Sixth In Pre-Season Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
Falcons notch 20 points in 2016 MASCAC Softball Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State softball team was recently picked sixth overall in the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Trailblazers of MCLA and the Lancers of Worcester State are the pre-season picks to win the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball championship in a vote of the league's coaches. Both teams tallied 41 points in the poll with MCLA, the defending MASCAC tournament champions notching one first place vote, while Worcester State, which claimed the 2015 regular season title, collected three first place ballots.
Following in third place is Bridgewater State with one first place vote for a total of 37 points, while Salem State earned the fourth slot with 35 points, including the remaining three first place votes. Framingham State landed in fifth place with 24 points, while the Falcons of Fitchburg State placed sixth with 20 points.
Westfield State slide into the seventh slot with 19 points, while the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy closed out this year's softball pre-season poll in eighth place with a total of seven points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
