Falcons Drop Season Opener To Cougars, 79-62

Mitchell and Thomson combine for 23 points and ten boards in non-conference setback 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 79-62 decision to the Cougars of Clark University this evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium in the season opener for both teams.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State was paced by freshman guard Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) with a nearly double-double of 15 points and nine rebounds as well as five assists and three steals in her collegiate debut, while sophomore Emma Thomson (York, Maine) added eight points, one rebound and one steal.

For Clark, junior Ogechi Ezemma (Hope Valley, R.I.) registers a team-leading 19 points and 11 caroms, while newcomer Idalis Miranda (Naugatuck, Conn.) added to the mix with a double-double of 17 points and ten caroms to go along with eight assists and one steal.

Inside the Numbers

Clark shot 41.5% (27-of-65) from the field, while limited to just 1-of-10 (10.0%) from three points range.

Fitchburg State finished 19-of-75 (25.3%) overall and 25.0% (10-for-40) from beyond the arc.

The Cougars controlled the glass, holding a 60-40 margin on the boards, while also finishing with an 18-15 margin in assists.

14th meeting between the two schools on the basketball court with the Falcons 5-9 all-time when taking on the Cougars.

Fitchburg State has won five of the last eight contests against Clark.
