Fitchburg State officially announces Jamika Townsend as Falcons next head Women’s Volleyball Coach

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State University has announced the appointment of Jamika Townsend as the new head coach of its volleyball program. Townsend brings a diverse background in both athletics and professional leadership to the Falcons. A native of Suffolk, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Leadership and has built a career centered on mentorship, development, and team-building. A former collegiate volleyball student-athlete at both the Division II and Division III levels, Townsend transitions into the role with valuable coaching experience. She previously served as an assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and most recently held the position of head coach at Anna Maria College, where she was responsible for leading all aspects of the program. In addition to her work in athletics, Townsend currently serves as the Senior Director of People & Culture at Abby's House, bringing a strong foundation in leadership, organizational development, and student-athlete support. “I’m incredibly excited to join Fitchburg State and be part of a community that is committed to both academic and athletic excellence,” said Townsend. “I’m passionate about building and growing the program into a competitive, winning culture, helping our student-athletes develop on and off the court, and ultimately bringing a MASCAC championship to the program.” Townsend currently resides in Worcester with her two children. Her appointment marks a new chapter for the Fitchburg State volleyball program as it looks to build toward sustained success within the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
