How It Happened

Fitchburg State struck first in the top of the opening inning as senior Maxwell Riordan (Pepperell, MA) reached base and eventually scored when senior Tyler Fonck (Lunenburg, MA) ripped an RBI triple to center field, giving the Green and Gold a 1-0 edge.

St. Vincent evened the contest in the bottom half of the inning as Dylan Schmude crossed the plate on a double play ball, but the Falcons quickly regained control in the second. The Falcons extended the advantage in the fifth inning, beginning with a sacrifice fly from Fonck that brought home Jason Kelly (East Bridgewater, MA). Fitchburg State continued to apply pressure as Brady Campbell (Sandwich, MA) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Bellew followed with a two-run single up the middle before Currier lined a two-run double to right field. Abt and Riordan each added RBI singles in the frame while Fonck capped the rally with a two-run triple and Michael Cooper (Montville, CT) later drove in another run, resulting in an 11-run inning and a commanding 14-1 lead.
