Baseball falls by double digits to Wisconsin Superior in Auburndale
Auburndale, FL – The Fitchburg State University baseball team fell to the University of Wisconsin–Superior by a 12–1 final this afternoon in non-conference action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State battled throughout the afternoon but was limited offensively as Wisconsin–Superior secured a 12–1 victory in non-conference play. The Yellowjackets took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added another in the second to build a 3–0 advantage. Wisconsin–Superior later extended the lead with a four-run fourth inning to make the score 7–0.
The Falcons broke through in the top of the eighth inning when freshman infielder Ruairi Rago (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring senior catcher Joshua Googins (Braintree, Mass.) to account for Fitchburg State's lone run of the contest. Senior Adam Wholley (Londonderry, N.H.) made the start on the mound for the Falcons, tossing three innings while striking out three batters. Junior Pete Joslyn (Holden, Mass.) followed in relief, while freshman Evan Aubin (Killingworth, Conn.) provided a strong outing out of the bullpen with 2.1 scoreless innings and two strikeouts. Freshman Thomas Watts (Foxboro, Mass.) also saw time on the mound in relief. At the plate, Fitchburg State was led by Tyler Fonck (Milford, Conn.), Joshua Googins, and Ruairi Rago, who each recorded a hit for the Falcons.
Wisconsin–Superior added five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the final 12–1 result.
