How It Happened

Game One

Fitchburg State struck first in the opening inning when junior Tyler Fonck (Milford, CT) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home senior Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) for an early 1-0 lead. Roger Williams responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame and later broke the game open with a six-run third inning to build a sizable advantage. The Falcons answered in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a wild pitch that allowed junior Casey Bellew (Beverly, MA) to score before Abt delivered a two-run single to center, plating junior Jason Kelly (East Bridgewater, MA) and freshman Ruairi Rago (Port Jefferson, NY) to trim the deficit to 10-4. Fitchburg State collected 10 hits in the contest and continued to battle offensively, but Roger Williams added late runs to secure the 12-4 final.

Game Two

The Falcons received a strong start from freshman Evan Aubin (Killingworth, CT), who kept the game scoreless through four innings while allowing just one hit. Roger Williams broke through in the fifth inning with a three-run frame and then pulled away with nine runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Offensively, Fitchburg State was led by Kelly, who recorded two hits including a double.
