Falcons drop series finale to Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Fitchburg State baseball team jumped out to an early lead but was unable to contain a high-powered Worcester State offense, falling 19–4 in MASCAC action. The Falcons came out strong in the opening innings, striking first in the top of the first when Tyler Fonck launched a solo home run to right center to give Fitchburg State a 1–0 lead. The advantage grew in the second inning as Ruairi Rago came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Casey Bellew, putting the Falcons ahead 2–0. Worcester State answered in the second inning with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half before erupting in the third inning. The Lancers plated five runs in the frame, capitalizing on a combination of timely hits and defensive miscues to take a 6–2 lead. The game broke open in the fourth inning, where Worcester State sent eight runs across the plate. The Lancers took advantage of walks, wild pitches, and key extra-base hits to extend their lead to 14–2, putting the Falcons in a difficult position for the remainder of the contest. Worcester State continued to add on with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run, pushing the margin to 19–2. Fitchburg State showed resilience late, adding two runs in the seventh inning. Nathaniel Badzmierowski scored on an RBI single from Fonck, while Joseph Abt followed with an RBI double to account for the final 19–4 score. Fonck led the Falcons offensively, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Abt added a strong performance with two hits and an RBI, while Badzmierowski, Rago, Casey Bellew, and Liam Currier each contributed hits in the effort. On the mound, Fitchburg State utilized multiple arms throughout the game. Evan Aubin got the start and went two innings, while the bullpen worked to navigate a difficult offensive surge from Worcester State.
