Baseball Defeats AMCATS In MASCAC Clash

Aubin earns first collegiate win for the Falcons

Paxton, MA – The Fitchburg State University Baseball team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 8-6 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Marlborough High School baseball field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed a 6-0 advantage in the top of third innings as graduate student Michael Cooper (Fitchburg, MA) drove in junior Jason Kelly (E. Bridgewater, MA) with sacrifice fly to center before senior Brady Campbell (Sandwich, MA) followed with an RBI fielders' choice that plated classmate Maxwell Riordan (Pepperell, MA).

Sophomore Benjamin Forbes (Ashburnham, MA) singled through the left side to score senior Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA), while sophomore Ruairi Rago (Port Jefferson, NY) laced a run scoring double down the left field line to plate Campbell and junior Liam Currier (Charlestown, RI) added a bases-loaded walk that scored Forbes.

Anna Maria answered back in the bottom of the fourth with Brayden Wright collecting an RBI groundout before Jonatha Guardascione crossed the plate on a fielding miscue.

The Falcons secured the victory in the top of the fifth when Forbes singled through the right side, moved to third on a single off the bat of Currier before Kelly singled through the left side to drive in Forbes and Currier, resulting in the 8-6 final.

  • Freshman Evan Aubin (Killingsworth, CT) picked up his first collegiate win for Fitchburg State, allowing two runs (1 earned) on four hits over two innings of relief
