Falcons Rally Past Rams In MASCAC Tilt

Aubin earns first collegiate save for the Falcons

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State University Baseball team defeated the Rams of Framingham State, 10-7 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Bowditch Field.

How It Happened

Framingham State took a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first as John Lynch singled to right field to bring in Christian Cox. Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the second when sophomore Benjamin Forbes (Ashburnham, MA) brought in senior Joshua Googins (Braintree, MA) with an RBI groundout.

The Rams answered back in the bottom of the second with Scott Paquette registering a two-run double to center field, scoring Jakob Lindkvist and Rosco Palmer for the 3-1 edge. The Falcons battled back to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth as Googins drove home senior Maxwell Riordan (Pepperell, MA) with a single down the right field line before Googins crossed the plate following throwing miscue and senior Casey Bellew (Beverly, MA) brought in classmate Brady Campbell (Sandwich, MA).

The hosts regained the advantage (5-4) in the bottom of the fourth with Massimo Mondi lacing a two-run single through the left side before extending the lead to 6-4 in the bottom of fifth as Palmer blasted a solo home run to center field.

The Green and Gold responded in the top of the sixth when junior Liam Currier (Charlestown, RI) drew a bases loaded walk to drive in Campbell, while junior Jason Kelly (E; Bridgewater, MA) reached on a fielders' choice to plate sophomore Ruairi Rago (Port Jefferson, NY). Sophomore Tyler Fonck (Milford, CT) singled to right field to score Bellew before Rago crossed the plate on a double steal attempt to make the score 8-6

Fitchburg State secured the victory in the top of the ninth with graduate student Michael Cooper (Fitchburg, MA) driving in Riordan with an RBI double to left field, while freshman Nathaniel Badzmierowski (Uxbridge, MA) scored on a wild pitch, resulting in the 10-7 final.

  • Riordan finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for the Green and Gold
  • Freshman Nolan Berkeley (Burlington, MA) picked up the victory for Fitchburg State, allowing one run on three hits and one strikeout over four innings pitched
