Falcon Trio Picks Up Conference Weekly Honors

Kibler, Jacobs and Kennedy pick up first awards of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 12, 2011) – Fitchburg State picked up three weekly conference honors this week as announced by the MASCAC and Little East Conference offices this afternoon.

Seniors Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) and Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) were tabbed MASCAC Players of the Week in their respective sports of cross country and women’s soccer, while senior Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) was named the Little East Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week.

Kennedy earns her first weekly honor of the season after opening the 2011 campaign with ten points through four games. The senior forward paced the Falcons to a 3-1 mark, posting four goals and two assists. Kennedy notched a pair of one goal, one assists efforts in the Falcons 4-1 and 7-0 victories over Manhattanville and Anna Maria, while chipping in with one score in a 2-0 shutout over WPI.

On the course, Kibler collected his first MASCAC honor of the year after leading the Fitchburg State men’s cross country team to a first place finish and perfect 15 point score at the Jim Sheehan Memorial. Kibler captured top honors for Falcons over the 4.75 mile layout, totaling a time of 26:00, while adding a 16:10 effort at the Keene State Alumni Meet in the first week of the season.

Rounding out the list of award winners was field hockey standout, Megan Jacobs. This week, Jacobs paced the Fitchburg State offensive attack with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. The product of Stoughton, Mass. became Fitchburg State’s all-time leader in goals scored (41), putting an additional five markers between the previous standard set by Amy Kosiewski (36, 1993). Jacobs matched the program record against Anna Maria with a season-high eight points, including three tallies, on Sept. 3 before etching her name in the Falcon record books with the first of her three goals at Becker College.

The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team will be back in action tomorrow night as it hosts Becker College at 7 p.m. The Falcons field hockey squad will host Nichols College on Thursday night (7 p.m.), while the men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 11 a.m.
