Craig notches lone goal for Fitchburg State in conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State in a shootout this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Bridgewater State 2 (Shootout)

Records: Fitchburg State (1-10, 0-5 LEC) | Bridgewater State (1-7. 1-3 LEC)

How It Happened

Bridgewater State nearly opened the scoring in the first period of play as junior Olivia Ahlman (Halifax, Mass.) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Falcon keeper Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) was able to deny both chances.

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead in the 25th minute of play when sophomore Sarah Craig (Winchendon, Mass.) slipped a shot inside the near post of an assist from sophomore Jordan Bartell (Fitchburg, Mass.) for her second tally of the season to make the score 1-0 going in the break.

Following the break, the Bears knotted the score (1-1) at the 38:11 mark with Ahlman collected a loose ball in front of the net and struck for her first goal on the year. Neither team would be able to find the back of the cage over the final three quarters of play as the contest would go into a shootout.

In the shootout both team traded scores as Ahlman converted for the Bears, while Craig netted the tally for the Falcons before senior Jacquelyn Legendre (Westport, Mass.) would but the visitors back on top, resulting in the 2-1, shootout final.
