Craig nets third tally of the season for Fitchburg State in conference setback 

Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Coughlin Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State grabbed a 1-0 lead 1:19 into the contest as senior Olivia Antoneli (Westford, Mass.) found the back of the cage off a penalty corner off assists from Alexa Bobbin (Charlestown, R.I.) and Cassidy Windler (Holden, Mass.).

The Lancers doubled their advantage minutes later when senior Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.) netted a marker of rebound before Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) connected a score with four seconds left in the half for the 3-0 margin going into the break.

Following the intermission, the hosts upped its lead in the 42nd minute of play on Hopkins second tally of the contest to make the score 4-0. Fitchburg State answered back with 2:10 left in the contest with sophomore Sarah Craig (Winchendon, Mass.) registering her team-leading third goal on the 2019 campaign, resulting in the 4-1 final.

This afternoon's contest will mark the 39th meeting between the two teams in the sport o field hockey with the Falcons 16-23-0 all-time when taking on the Lancers

Worcester State has won the last five contests against Fitchburg State, including a 5-0 decision last season at Elliot Field

Freshman Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, Mass.) made eight saves for the Falcons in the setback

Falcons will host the Owls of Westfield State University on Thursday for an LEC matchup, starting at 4:00 PM. Lancers will host the Huskies of Southern Maine on Wednesday for a conference tilt at 7:00 PM.
