Fitchburg State Shoots Over Fisher, 61-52

Kimber nets team-high 14 points in Falcons first victory of the season

KEENE, N.H. (November 20, 2010) –The Fitchburg State men's basketball team collected its first victory of the season, downing the Falcons of Fisher College, 61-52 in the consolation round of the 2010 KSC Adrenaline Circuit Tip-Off Tournament this evening.

Fitchburg State junior Jeremy Kimber (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) led all Falcon scorers with a team-best 14 points. Kimber was nearly perfect all game, shooting 2-of-3 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three point range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Junior Tom Henneberry (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) barely missed a double-double with nine points and team-high 12 boards, while sophomore Adam Fahey (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) chipped in with ten points and five caroms.

The Falcons jumped out to an early ten point lead at the break, using six point efforts from Kimber and Fahey for a 30-20 lead at intermission. Trailing by one (6-5) in the opening minutes of the period, Fitchburg State notched an 18-3 run to break open the contest and grab a commanding 14 point advantage midway through the first half. Kimber kick started the rally with a three pointer at 14:41 before Fahey capped the surge with a lay-up at 10:00.

In the second half, Fitchburg State went up by as much as 16 points, shutting down any Fisher comeback for its first win of the season. Kimber secured the victory with an eight point second frame, hitting eight consecutive free-throws, while junior Stephen Verdi (Revere, Mass./Malden) added to mix with six points in the stanza.

Fitchburg State used a 21-of-25 effort from the free-throw line to earn a mark in the win column, while the Falcons converted 18-of-50 shots from the field. Fisher did not have an answer on the offensive end, shooting only 25.0% from the field, but Falcons did not go quietly, forcing 20 turnovers and 13 steals throughout the game.

Fitchburg State (1-2, 0-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts UMass Boston at 7:30 p.m. Fisher (1-6, 0-0 SC) will travel to Daniel Webster College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
