Massicotte and Jaramillo combine to stop ten shots in non-conference setback
Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's soccer team suffered a tough 3-0 setback to the Cougars of Clark University in non-conference action this evening at Granger Field.
Score: Fitchburg State 0, Clark 3
Records: Fitchburg State (4-7) | Clark (9-3-1)
How It Happened
Clark opened the scoring at the 25:21 mark as junior midfielder Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) deposited a shot inside the near post for his third score of the season for the 1-0 margin.
The Cougars doubled their lead seven and half minutes later when freshman Brian Brennan (Stoneham, Mass./St. John's Prep) settled a feed from classmate Connor Ross (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) and connected on his third score on the year to make the score 2-0 going into the intermission.
Following the break, Fitchburg State threatened in the 58th minute of play as sophomore Yannick DePina (Boston, Mass./Madison Park) and junior Marckdonard Bastien (Worcester, Mass./Worcester North) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Clark keeper Marco White (Manhattan Beach, Calif./VistamarSchool) denied both scoring opportunities to preserve the shutout.
Clark upped its advantage at the 63:05 mark when Ross received a pass from senior Jack Stark (Abington, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and connected on his team-leading ninth goal of the 2018 campaign, resulting in the 3-0 final.
