Bourassa & Guevara Mateo Sweep MASCAC MITK Weekly Honors
Bourassa tabbed field athlete of the week; Guevara Mateo named track & rookie of the week
Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State Men's Indoor Track senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) was recently named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was selected MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete and Rookie of the week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Bourassa picked up his second weekly honor of the season after placing second overall in the weight throw with an All-New England qualifying toss of 16.70 meters and first in the shotput with an All-NE qualifying throw of 15.60 meters for the Falcons at the 2026 Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University on Saturday. At the 2026 Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge on Sunday, Liam finished first overall in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 14.43 meters as well as placing sixth overall in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16.89 meters.
Guevara Mateo also notched his second weekly accolades of the 2026 campaign after finishing first overall in mile with an All-New England qualifying time of 4:15.89 for the Green and Gold at the 2026 Branwen Smith-King Invitational on Saturday. At the 2026 Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge, Paulino took top honors in the 5000 meter with an All-New England qualifying time of 14:50.67. With his times in the mile and 5000 meter, Guevara Mateo currently ranks sixth nationally in the mile and 26th nationally in 5000 meter.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday as they compete at the 2026 Wesleyan Indoor Invitational, starting at 10:00 MA.
