Men’s Track Places 14th At The 2026 DIII New England Championships
Guevara Mateo sets program record time of 8:26.25 in the 3000 meter
Boston, MA – The Fitchburg State University Men's Indoor Track & Field team placed 14th overall with a total of 18 points at the 2026 DIII New England Championships today at the New Balance Track.

Score: 14th Place, 18 PointsSenior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing third overall in the weight throw with an All-New England qualifying toss of 17.12 meters as well as finishing fourth overall in the shotput with an All-NE qualifying toss of 15.76 meters, while senior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) placed seventh in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16.48 meters in addition to finishing 23rd overall in the shotput with a toss of 13.07 meters.
Newcomer Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing seventh overall in the mile with an All-NE qualifying time of 4:12.56 and sixth overall in the 3000 meter with an All-NE qualifying and new program record time of 8:26.25, breaking the previous record, held by Chris Kibler in 2012, while sophomore Shamar Richburg (Rio Vista, TX) finished 19th in the long jump with a mark of 6.27 meters as well as placing 20th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.85 meters.
The 4000 meter distance medley relay team of senior Micheal Burns (Worcester, MA), classmate Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA), junior Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) and senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) finished 12th with a time of 11:32.95, while in the mile, junior Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) added a 22nd place effort of 4:22.86,
The 4x800 meter relay team of Madigan, Edwards, Elmi and Lancaster registered an 18th place time of 8:35.49, while the 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA), freshman Martin Griffith (Randolph, MA), junior Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) and junior Derrick Tawiah (Worcester, MA) finished 28th with a time of 3:46.17.
