Fitchburg State Hosts Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite
Stalters qualifies for ECAC's in 110 hurdles and javelin to pace Fitchburg State
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track & field team hosted the 2016 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational this afternoon at Elliot Field, placing second with a total of 168 points.
Freshman Cameron Stalters led the way, placing second overall in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 53.49m as well as qualifying for ECAC's in the 110m hurdles with a first place time of 15.72 seconds, while junior Chauncey Beatty (56.31) and classmate Nicholas Levenson (57.74) placed 1st and 2nd respectively to qualify for DIII New England's.
In the 1550, sophomore Jake Hastings registered a post-season qualifying time of 4:07.91, while junior Joseph Little (4:29.23) and newcomer Daniel Fournier (4:43.22) added MASCAC qualifying times as well.
In the 800m, senior Richard Ethier, IV (1:59.89), Hastings (2:01.40), freshman Joseph Chamberlin (2:09.02) and sophomore Liam Eble (2:09.08) placed second, third, ninth and tenth respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while newcomer Joseph Darrigo turned in a second place finish in the 3000m steeple chase with a post-season qualifying time of 10:25.06.
On the track, sophomore Brian Amaral (5th) and newcomer Anthony Darrigo (9th) registered post-season qualifying times of 33:33.18 and 34:52.36 respectively in the 10,000m, while in the 5000m, senior Timothy Allen (17:11.36) and classmate Michael Martin (17:52.87) added MASCAC qualifying times.
In the 400m hurdles, newcomer Austin Landress (1:00.54), senior Brandon Brideau (1:03.02) and freshman Andrew Tricker (1:03.52) placed sixth, seventh and eighth respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while Levenson placed fourth overall in the 100m with post-season qualifying time 11.70 seconds.
In the field, sophomore Ben Sattiewhite placed first overall in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.85m as well as placing sixth overall in the long jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 5.78m.
In the pole vault, sophomore Timothy Breen (3.65m) and Stalters (3.20m) placed second and fifth respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while freshman Brendon Courtney rounded out the top Falcons efforts with a fifth place finish in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 11.53m.
The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track & field team return to action next Saturday as it competes in the 2016 Smith College Invite, starting at 11 a.m.
