Men’s Track Opens 2026 Campaign At J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic

Bourassa sets school record in the shotput with toss of 15.16 meters

Middletown, CT – The Fitchburg State University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team opened their 2026 campaign today, competing in the 2026 J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, hosted by Wesleyan University at the Andersen Track.

Senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 48.78 meters as well as finishing second in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying and new school record toss of 15.16 meters , surpassing the previous record held by Matt Muolo (2010) and fourth in the discus with an All-New England qualifying toss of 45.25 meters, while classmate Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) finished fifth overall in the hammer throw with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 46.05 meters in addition to placing ninth in the shotput with a toss of 13.20 meters and finishing 26th in the discus with a toss of 33.08 meters.

Newcomer Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing fourth overall in the 1500 meter a time of 4:04.64 and fifth in the 800 meter (1:59.07).

In the 1500 meter, senior Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) (28th), junior Lemuel Del Valle (Lawrence, MA) (39th) and senior Martin Onyimba (Worcester, MA) (41st) turned in times of 4:36.62, 5:09.70 and 5:53.77, while in the 100 meter hurdles, senior Tyriek Williams (Canonsburg, PA) turned in a fourth place time of 15.90 seconds.

In the 400 meter, freshman Martin Griffith (Randolph, MA) (54.05), senior Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA) (55.91) and junior Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) (56.43) placed 20th, 33rd and 36th, while in the 100 meter, sophomore Christopher Adamchek (Carlisle, MA) (12th), junior Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (30th) and junior Derrick Tawiah (Worcester, MA) (46th) posted times of 11.33, 11.76 and 12.13 seconds.

Senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (2:04.72), classmate Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) (2:17.71) and Del Valle (2:29.77) finished 13th, 26th and 27th respectively in the 800 meter, while junior Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) placed eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.39.

In the 200 meter, Adamchek (25th), Clottier (36th), Madden (51st), Griffith (60th), Tawiah (64th) and Madigan (67th) posted times of 23.17, 23.47, 24.10, 24.30 24.54 and 24.75 seconds respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Adamchek, Clottier Jr, Madden and Tawaih placed first overall with a time of 48.99 seconds, while in the 5000 meter, senior Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (11th), Lancaster (13th) and freshman Jacob Owens (Providence, RI) (14th) posted times of 17:37.47, 18:14.38 and 22:59.07.

In the field, junior John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (26th), freshman Cameron Borges (Fall River. MA) (27th), classmate Vishnu Pithani (Mansfield, MA) (27th) , sophomore Joseph Imbracsio (N. Billerica, MA) (30th) and newcomer Nathan Murray (N. Billerica, MA) (31st)  turned in tosses of 32.67, 31.66, 29.73, 27.73 and 26.37 meters in the hammer throw, while Koutsouoa added a 26th place throw of 11.07 meters in the shotput.

In the long jump, sophomore Kyler Valdez (Lawrence, MA) finished 26th overall with a mark of 4.58 meters, while in the discus, Imbracsio and Murray placed 17th and 23rd overall with marks of 36.86 meters and 34.93 meters.
