Men’s Track Shines At Silfen Invitational
Bourassa notches four first places efforts for Green & Gold
New London, CT – The Fitchburg State University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team returned to action this weekend as they competed at the 2026 Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College at the Silfen Field and Track.

Senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the javelin with an All-New England qualifying throw of 63.55 meters and first overall in the discus with an All-New England qualifying toss of 46.56 meters, first in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 15.02 meter and first overall in hammer throw with an All-New England qualifying toss of 53.17 meters while classmate Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) finished 12th overall in the discus with a DIII NE qualifying throw of 35.90 meters, sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.26 meters and second overall in hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 51.33 meters.
Newcomer Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing second overall in the 10,000 meter with an All New England and new school record time of 30:12.15, surpassing the previous record held by Paul McGovern, while senior Tyriek Williams (Canonsburg, PA) placed second overall in the 110 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 15.55 seconds.
In the 100 meter, junior Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (25th), classmate Derrick Tawiah (Worcester, MA) (44th) and senior David Rodriguez (Hampden, MA) (62nd) posted times of 11.48, 11.96 and 12.64 seconds, while in the 1500 meter, junior Lemuel Del Valle (Lawrence, MA) (24th), freshman Jacob Owens (Providence, RI) (29th) senior Martin Onyimba (Worcester, MA) (30th) turned in times of 5:08.52, 5:27.71 and 5:43.93.
In the 400 meter, freshman Martin Griffith (Randolph, MA) and senior Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA) placed 33rd and 40th overall with times of 54.91 and 56.14 seconds, while in the 800 meter, Del Valle finished 26th overall with a time of 2:29.01,
Junior Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) and senior Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) placed eighth and 17th overall in the 400 meter hurdles with times of 59.58 seconds and 1:07.25, while Griffith (23.61), Madden (23.95) and Tawiah (24.75) placed 30th, 36th and 54th in the 200 meter.
In the 800 meter, junior Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) and senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) finished 29th and 35th with times of 2:01.67 and 2:02.94, while in the 5000 meter, Edwards and senior Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) finished first and 18th with times of 15:47.12 and 17:08.27.
In the field, junior Antonio Martinez-Pacheco (Nashua, NH) (6th), freshman Vishnu Pithani (Mansfield, MA) (16th), newcomer Nathan Murray (N. Billerica, MA) (24th) and sophomore Cameron Borges (Fall River, MA) (34th) and turned in tosses of 44.46, 34.25, 30.66 and 28.66 meters in the hammer throw, while Borges (17th) Koutsouoa (18th), Pitani (31st) and Imbracsio (32nd) netted throws of 11.47M, 11.42M, 9.40M and 8.90M in the shotput.
In the triple jump, sophomore Tafari Byfield-Felton (Fiskdale, MA) and sophomore Shamar Richburg (Rio Vista, TX) notched DIII New England qualifying marks of 13.42 and 13.16 meters after placing second and third overall, while sophomore Angel Lockward (Santo Domingo, DN) finished 16th with a mark of 10.99 meters.
In the high jump, freshman Kevin Tawiah (Worcester, MA) placed 14th overall with a mark of 1.66 meters.
