Falcon Duo Sweeps MASCAC Weekly Honors

Bourassa named Field Athlete; Guevara Mateo selected Track Athlete & Rookie 

Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State Men's Outdoor Track senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) was recently tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Field Athlete of the Week, freshman Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was selected MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete & Rookie of the week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Bourassa earned his third weekly accolade of the 2026 campaign after taking top honors in the discus with an All-New England qualifying toss of 45.96 meters as well as placing first overall in the hammer throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 58.56 meters. Concluded the day, finishing second overall in the shotput with a DIII New England and new school record throw of 15.22 meters for the Falcons at the 2026 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT this weekend. With his toss in the hammer throw, Liam currently ranks 11th nationally in the hammer.

Guevara Mateo collected his fourth weekly honor of the season after placing second overall in the 5000 meter with an All-New England and new school record time of 14:25.01 for the Falcons at the 2026 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT this weekend, surpassing the previous record held be Paul McGovern. With his time in the 5000 meter, Paulino currently ranks 28th nationally in the 5000 meter.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday as they compete at the 2026 MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Fitchburg State, starting at 10:00AM.
