Fitchburg takes 9th place finish at All-New Englands, look forward to Nationals

Fitchburg State track and field competed against some of the top athletes in the region at the 2026 All-New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and came home with a 9th place finish, the highest in program history, highlighted by another dominant weekend from Liam Bourassa and several strong performances across the men's and women's squads.

Men's Results

  • Liam Bourassa captured first place in the javelin with a throw of 69.4 meters, a mark that ranks second nationally in Division III and qualifies him for the NCAA National Championships this weekend.
  • Liam Bourassa also won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.81 meters, which ranks 13th nationally entering the national meet.
  • Liam Bourassa added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.39 meters, competing against a field made up largely of Division I athletes.
  • Liam Bourassa also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 45.40 meters.
  • Cameron Monette finished 7th place in Hammer Throw, with a throw of 53.26, and may qualify for Nationals later this week.
  • Monette also threw in the shoput, placing 21st overall with a throw of 13.21 meters.
  • Antonio Martinez-Pacheco finshed 18th in the shotput with a throw of 13.34 meters

Women's Results

  • Trishannah Scott earned sixth place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.01 meters.

The Falcons turned in a strong showing against regional competition, with Bourassa continuing to establish himself as one of the top field athletes in Division III heading into the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships next weekend, where Liam Bourassa will compete in both the Javelin and Hammer throw.

The F.I.R.E. MEET

Two Fitchburg State Athletes also competed in Williams College's "The F.I.R.E. MEET' in North Adams this weekend, seeking last minute National Qualifying times.

Paulino Guevara Mateo and Skye Goba both ran the 10,000 meters. Both posted personal bests and school records, as Mateo finished with a time of 29:54.14, and Goba a time of 36.09.80.

Mateo's finish puts him on the bubble for Nationals, as the top 22 compete, and Mateo is currently ranked 23rd, meaning he will be first up if there are any late scratches. Goba fell short of the qualifying mark, finishing 40th overall.

Congratulations to all of our track athletes who finished up their seasons this weekend, putting a cap on a top tier season.
