Softball Drop Conference Doubleheaders To Lancers

Connors, Baez & Cooper collect RBI for the Green & Gold

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Lancers of Worcester State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Field by the scores of 13-3 and 8-0.

How It Happened

Game One

Worcester State jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in the top of the first as Bella Gasbarro connected on a two-run double to left center before Zoe Stevens, Carisa Andrews and Bailey Tammaro added RBI hits.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the first when freshman Kiley Connors (Newington, CT) singled to left field and came around to cross the plate as junior Julia Cooper (Lumberton, NJ) singled to right field.

The Lancers extended the margin to 12-1 in the top of the fourth with Tammaro, Stevens, Mackenzie Roy and Cali Brouillard notching RBI's in the frame. The Green and Gold answered back in the bottom the fifth as sophomore Priscilla Dillon (Glenville, GA) singled to left field before pinch runner Madison Butler (Carver, MA) stole second and scored on an RBI single to center field off the bat of sophomore Ariana Baez (Methuen, MA) , while pinch runner Emily Bennett (Gorham, ME) would score on an RBI groundout by Connors, resulting in the 13-3 final.

  • Connors led the way for the Green and Gold, hitting 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI
  • Baez and Cooper added one hit and one RBI for the Falcons
  • Freshman Alison Hazel (Winchendon, MA) allowed seven runs (3 earned) on seven hits and one K over four innings of relief in a no decision

Game Two

Worcester State grabbed a 4-0 margin in the top of first as Gasbarro laced a two-run double to left center before Morgan Keefe and Laurel Field added RBI base knocks. The Lancers secured the victory in the top of the second with Camden Heenan registering a two-run double to right field and Gasbarro followed with an RBI single right field, resulting in the 8-0 final.

  • Dillon led the way for the Falcons, going 1-for-2 with a double
  • Freshman Brianna Lynch (Pittsfield, MA) took the loss for Fitchburg State, yielding seven runs (6 earned) on nine hits and two strikeouts over two innings pitched
