Softball Earns Split with AMCATS In Conference Double Header
Freeman racks up four hits for Green and Gold
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State softball team collected a split with the AMCATS of Anna Maria College this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field, dropping the opener 6-0 before registering a 6-3 triumph in the nightcap.

How It Happened
Game One
Anna Maria grabbed a 4-0 advantage in the top 7 of the first as Meghan Doyle drove in Ella Moon with a single through the left side before Angela Marie Gilmartin registered a bases clearing double to right field, scoring Doyle, Mae McGowan and Paige Stewart.
The Amcats secured the victory in the top of the sixth when Stewart brought in Emelia Carvalho with a sacrifice fly to center field and McGowan plated Moon with an RBI single to right field, resulting in the 6-0 final.

- Freshman Rylee Freeman (Rockland, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base
- Sophomore Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) finished 2-for-3 for the Falcons
- Senior Madison Solt (Salem, NH) took the loss for Fitchburg State, allowing six runs (4 earned) on ten hits with five strikeouts in the complete game effort
Game Two
Fitchburg State took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first when junior Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) singled to center field to score newcomer Kiley Connors (Newington, CT) before senior Shaelyn Burns (N. Attleboro, MA) drew a bases loaded walk to bring in freshman Chloe Bafundo (Southington, CT). Sophomore Priscilla Dillon (Glennville, GA) followed with an RBI ground that scored Mueller, while Freeman registered a two-run single to right center that plated Burns and Connors..
Anna Maria cut the deficit to 6-2, scoring runs in the third and fifth frames as McGowan and Doyle notched RBI singles. The Falcons secured the victory in the bottom of fifth though when Burns reached on a fielders' choice that drove in sophomore Paige Konopka (Middlefield, CT), resulting in the 6-3 final.
