Women's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt To Bears

Harlow finishes with game-best 18 points for Green & Gold

Bridgewater, MA – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team dropped a 92-52 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Tinsley Center.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State grabbed a 4-2 advantage on buckets from senior Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) and junior Aliza Som (Lowell, MA) before Bridgewater State took a 10-4 edge as senior Kylie Grassi (Plymouth, MA) and graduate student Kylee Piche (Bridgewater, MA) netted layups. The Bears pushed to lead to 25-6 as Grassi and sophomore Sophie Bradbury (East Bridgewater, MA) connected on three-pointers, but the Falcons countered with three-ball by Som and senior Rylie Harlow (Hanson, MA) to cut the deficit to 25-12.

2nd quarter

The Green and Gold trimmed the lead to 29-16 with Hart and Harlow collecting buckets, but the hosts upped the margin to 37-16 with Piche netting a layup. Bridgewater State extended the lead to 51-21 when sophomore Ashleigh Johnson (Carver, MA) notched a jumper before Fitchburg State responded as Harlow connected on a layup to make the score 51-23 going into break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Bridgewater State pushed the lead to 63-26 on baskets by senior Arielle Cleveland (Groveland, MA) and freshman Bridgett O'Sullivan (Cumberland, RI), but Fitchburg State answered as junior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) buried a three-pointer (65-29). The Falcons cut the lead to 70-37 when Hart converted a layup and free-throw, while freshman Emma Adisa (Houston, TX) added two from the charity stripe before the Bears upped the margin to 75-38 on a three-ball from newcomer Chloe Azoff (Sandwich, MA).

4th quarter

The Green and Gold reduced the margin to 82-48 on baskets from Hart and Harlow as well as a three-ball by Tanner before the Bears extended the lead to 84-48 with senior Jordan Peebles (Middleboro, MA) hitting a layup. The Falcons answered back on a Tanner layup, but the hosts secured the victory when Azoff notched a bucket, resulting in the 92-52 final.

• Harlow led the way for the Falcons with a game leading 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist and four steals
• Tanner chipped in with 14 points, seven boards and one assist
• For the Bears, Cleveland finished with a team-best 18 points, five caroms, three assists and two blocks
