Women’s Lacrosse Clipped By Beacons In Non-Conference Tilt
S. Azzari nets one goal and two assists for Green & Gold
Newton, MA – The Fitchburg State Women's Lacrosse team dropped a tough 9-7 decision to the Beacons of UMass Boston this afternoon in non-conference action from Alumni Field.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State opened the contest with a 1-0 lead as junior Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) found the back of the net for her sixth tally on the season before UMass Boston knotted the score at 1-1 with Rae Alexander netting a marker. The Falcons regained the advantage (2-1) when newcomer Nevaeh Chiacchia (Monson, MA) registered her eighth goal of the 2026 campaign.
In the second quarter of play, the Beacons retied the contest (2-2) as Morgan Holohan connected on free position tally before taking a 4-2 lead into the break with Angelina Mazzone and Ava Duffy picking up scores.
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 4-3 to open the third quarter when junior Noelle Kennedy (West Roxbury, MA) notching her sixth goal of the season before UMass Boston answered back as Teresa Sheedy and Duffy notched goals for the 6-3 lead. The Green and Gold trimmed the lead to 6-5 however when newcomer Meredith Rogers (West Topsham, VT) and junior Mykaela Correia (Dracut, MA) netted goals.
In the final period of play, the Beacons pushed the lead to 7-5 as Mazzone collected her second tally of the contest before the Green and Gold responded when senior Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) connected on her team leading 13th goal on the season. UMass Boston upped the advantage to 9-6 though with Kaitlyn Ondrick and Samantha DeMarco found the back of the net. The Falcons closed out the scoring late in the contest when newcomer Layne Thomason (Hudson, MA) picked up her fourth marker on the season, resulting in the 9-7 final.
