How It Happened
Fitchburg State took a 3-2 lead as freshman Nevaeh Chiacchia (Monson, MA), junior Hannah Azzari (Haverhill, MA) and sophomore Nola Patty (Ashburnham, MA) netted the goals before UMass Dartmouth knotted the score at 3-3 with junior Maddy Allen (Whtiman, MA) found the back of the net. The Falcons pushed the advantage to 4-3 when junior Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) notched her eighth tally of the season.
In the second quarter of play, the Green and Gold upped the advantage to 10-3 as junior Noelle Kennedy (W. Roxbury, MA), classmate Kiley McFadden (Tewksbury, MA), senior Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA), newcomer Meredith Rogers (West Topsham, VT) and Chiacchia notched goals before the Corsairs cut the deficit to 10-5 with freshman Carleigh Swenson (N. Attleboro, MA) connecting a back-to-back markers. The Falcons took an 11-5 edge into the break when Kennedy netted her second tally of the contest.
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State upped the lead to 13-5 as St George and H. Azzari collected scores, but UMass Dartmouth answered back when Allen registered a pair of tallies, while Swenson added her second goal of the contest.
In the final period of play, the Corsairs cut the deficit to 13-8 when Allen found the back of the net for her third score on the evening before the Green and Gold secured the victory with freshman Paige Marchand (Rocky Hill, CT) netted her third goal of the season, resulting in the 14-10 victory.
