MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons collect 18 points for seventh pick overall

FITCHBURG, Mass. (August 22, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team was recently selected seventh overall with 18 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women’s soccer coaches poll.

Westfield State, the conference’s regular season and tournament champion last fall, was selected unanimously to repeat with 64 points, while Worcester State landed in second place with a total of 54 points.

Bridgewater State finished in third with 48 points, while Salem State and Framingham State follow in fourth and fifth place with 40 and 31 points respectively. MCLA is slated to finish in sixth place with 25 points, while Fitchburg State placed seventh overall with 18 points. Massachusetts Maritime rounds out the coaches’ poll in eighth place with eight points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University will join the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team is set to kick off its 2013 schedule on Friday August 30th as it takes on Mahattanville College in the 2013 Warriors Classic hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University at 4:30 p.m.
