Fitchburg State Track Earns Fourth In Pre-Season Poll

 Men finish with five points in Men’s Poll; Women place fourth with five points

FITCHBURG, Mass. (December 4, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were recently selected fourth in the 2013-14 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.

The Owls of Westfield State University were selected as the pre-season favorites to win the 2013 -14 MASCAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field championships in a vote of the league’s coaches.

Westfield State captured three of the four first place votes on the men’s side to amass 15 points and narrowly outdistance runner-up Worcester State’s total of 12 points that included the remaining first place vote. Bridgewater State followed in third place with eight points, while Fitchburg State rounded out the poll in fourth place with five points.

On the women’s side, Westfield State is looking to defend their 2012-13 crown after claiming three first place votes for a total of 15 points to top Worcester State, which amassed 13 points, including the other first place vote. Bridgewater State followed in third place with seven points, while Fitchburg State concluded the poll in fourth place with five points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
