Ice Hockey Soars Past Owls In Conference Tilt

Macchioni & Millhorn net one goal & one assist for Green & Gold

Westfield, MA – The Fitchburg State Ice Hockey Team earned a 4-1 triumph over the Owls of Westfield State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Amelia Park Ice Arena.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first period, Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 edge 5:48 into the second period as sophomore Marcus Macchioni (North Kingstown, RI) settled a feed from junior Jackson Collins (Wake Forest, NC) and senior Trenton Skaggs (Oconomowoc, WI) and fired a shot into the right side of net for his seventh tally on the season.

The Falcons doubled their advantage three minutes later when junior Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) put a shot into the lower left corner with assists from graduate student Christian Halbig (Queenstown, MD) and newcomer Tye Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) for his sixth marker of the 2025-26 campaign to make the score 2-0.

The Green and Gold pushed the margin to 3-0 with four minutes remaining in the stanza with senior Declan Bronte (Melbourne, AUS) receiving a pass from freshman John Mantone (Nashua, NH) and deposited a shot inside left post for his first score on the season.

In the third period of play, Fitchburg State secured the victory at the 13:59 mark as Millhorn found the back of the net for his third score of the year with an assist from Macchioni for the 4-0 edge. Westfield State broke the shutout at the 17:38 mark with senior Colin Roe (Boston, MA) finding the back of the for his second tally on the year, resulting in the 4-1 final.
