Women’s Basketball Topped By Owls In Conference Action

Smith & Tanner net 15 points each for Green & Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Falcons of Fitchburg State dropped a 96-61 match-up to the Owls of Westfield State in MASCAC conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened.

Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA) led Fitchburg State in the opening half with five points and a team-high six rebounds, providing a steady presence inside. Kyelah Smith (Bloomfield, CT) and Monet Augmon (New London, CT) followed with eight and seven points, respectively.  Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA), Avery James (Attleboro, MA), Erin McNamara (Leominster, MA), and Malaica Guillaume (Everett, MA) each contributed offensively as the Falcons looked to keep the game within reach.

Despite the halftime deficit, Fitchburg State created opportunities through defensive rebounds and forced turnovers, heading into the locker room.

Fitchburg State worked to chip away at Westfield State's lead in the third quarter, with Smith, Augmon, and Patch fueling the offense. Avery James made a free throw and added a jumper, while Kaelynn Tanner hit a trio of shots, including a three-pointer, to keep the Falcons on the board.

Fitchburg State picked up the pace in the fourth quarter, with Mikayler Patch, Malaica Guillaume, Kaelynn Tanner, and Kyelah Smith all contributing to the scoreboard. Tanner hit a three-pointer with Erin McNamara assisting, while Smith made both a layup and a three-pointer. McNamara also knocked down a three-pointer off a setup from Avery James. Fitchburg finished the quarter with 15 points.

  • Patch had 11 rebounds, while Guillaume posted 10 caroms
  • Fitchburg State shot 23-63 (36.5%) from the field and (7-of-27) 25.9% from three-point range
