Women’s Lacrosse Upended By Lancers In MASCAC Clash

S. Azzari, McFadden and Rogers net one goal each for the Falcons 

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 17-3 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State opened the contest with a 4-0 advantage as junior Madigan Kelley (Bourne, MA) found the back of the net twice, while junior Meghan Bowen (Westfield, MA) and senior Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA) added one goal each. Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 4-1 when junior Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) connected on her seventh marker of the season.

In the second quarter of play, Lancers pushed the margin to 11-1 with Bowen netting three tallies, while senior Molly Witkowski (Greenville, MA), classmate Mickayla Fisher (Peabody, MA), Donahue and Kelley netting scores.

Following the intermission, Worcester State extended the lead to 14-1 as freshman Savannah Botthol (Chester, PA) notched a pair of marker and classmate Fallon Lozano (Upton, MA) added one goal.

In the final period of play, the Falcons trimmed the deficit to 16-3 with junior Kiley McFadden (Tewksbury, MA) and freshman Meredith Rogers (West Topsham, VT) connecting on goal, but the Lancers secured the victory when newcomer Meghan Heffenan (Westminster, MA) found the back of net, resulting in the 17-3 final.
