Ice Hockey Clips AMCATS In MASCAC Action

Saavedra & Niles net one goal each for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA - The Fitchburg State ice hockey team collected a 2-1 victory over the AMCATS of Anna Maria College this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Following a scoreless first period, Fitchburg State broke the 0-0 stalemate 3:40 into the second period as senior Jack Saavedra (Mishawaka, IN) collected a feed from junior Declan Bronte (Victoria, BC) and fired a shot into the right side of the net for his first marker of the season for the 1-0 edge.

In the third period of play, Anna Maria knotted the score just 1:14 into the frame when sophomore Patrick Crooks (Billing, MT) received a feed from senior Pearce Baker (King, ON) and sophomore Owen Barron (Kamloops, BC) and deposited a shot into the left side of the net for his second score of the season to make the score 1-1.

The Falcons regained the lead 7:42 into the stanza with freshman Devin Niles (Hatfield, MA) wristed a shot into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the 2-25-26 campaign with an assist from classmate Aleksei Filimonov (Saint Petersburg, Russia), resulting in the 2-1 final.
