Women's Basketball Upended By Bears In Conference Tilt
Tanner finished with team-leading nine points for Green & Gold
Bridgewater, MA. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped a 93-38 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon from the Tinsley Center.

How It Happened
1st quarter
Bridgewater State opened the contest with an 11-0 edge on buckets from senior Haley Burchardt (Schenectady, NY), sophomore Reese Bartlett (Norwood, MA) and freshman Emilie von der Linder (Sanbornville, NH) before Fitchburg State answered back with senior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) and junior Monet Augmon (New London, CT) draining a three-pointers to make the score 17-7.
2nd quarter
The Bears extended the advantage to 27-14 when von der Linden hit a layup, but the Falcons trimmed the deficit to 31-20 as Tanner and freshman Avery James (N. Attleboro, MA) hit three-balls. The two teams traded three-pointers to close out half with Tanner drilling her third trey of the contest, while Bartlett connected for the Bears to make the score 49-24 going into the break.
3rd quarter
Following the intermission, Bridgewater State upped the margin to 58-24 as von der Linden sank two free-throws before Fitchburg State responded with senior Mikayler Patch (Attleboro, MA) and classmate Alexis DeSimone (Ashburnham, MA) registering jumpers to make the score 60-28.
4th quarter
The Green and Gold reduced the margin to 85-36 with DeSimone knocking down a three pointer, but the hosts secured the victory as sophomore Chloe Azoff (Sandwich, MA) netted a layup, resulting in the 93-38 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Falcons were paced by Tanner with a team best nine points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal
- Freshman Kyelah Smith (Bloomfield, CT) added eight points, three assists and one steal
- For the Bears, von der Linden finished with a game-best 26 points, eight boards, three assists and two blocks
- Van-Etten chipped in with 11 points, five caroms and four assists
- Fitchburg State shot 14-for-50 (28.0%) from the field and (6-of-23) 26.1% from three-point range
- Bridgewater State went 38-of-66 (57.6%) overall and (6-for-18) 33.3% from beyond the arc
- Bears finished with a 46-23 margin on the glass
