Women's Basketball Topped By Lasers In Non-Conference Action

Keohane nets game best 16 points for Green & Gold

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped a 61-48 decision to the Lasers of Lasell University this evening in non-conference action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

 The Basics

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State raced out to an early 10-2 advantage on buckets from senior Mikayler Patch (N. Attleboro, MA), freshman Kyelah Smith (Bloomfield, CT) and sophomore Mary Keohane (N. Chelmsford, MA) before Lasell trimmed the deficit to 10-8 as sophomore Abigail Duclos (Weare, NH) connected on a pair of buckets.

2nd quarter

The Falcons pushed the lead to 14-8 when Keohane and freshman Shanell Smith-Akpan (West Warwick, RI) connected on baskets, but the Lasers rallied to take a 17-14 edge with junior Mack Blaize (Chicopee, MA) hitting a three-pointer.

The Green and Gold answered back as Keohane buried a three-ball to knot the score at 17-17 before Lasell took a 26-19 lead into the break when Blaize hit a three-pointer and senior Laura Johnson (Groton, CT) added a layup.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State trimmed the deficit to 26-21 as Patch registered a jumper before Lasell responded with a Duclos jumper for the 28-21 edge. The Green and Gold answered back when senior Alexis DeSimone (Ashburnham, MA) connected on a three-ball, but the visitors pushed the lead to 46-36 as Johnson and senior Shire Major (Worcester, MA) netted buckets.

4th quarter

The Falcons reduced the deficit to 55-43 on baskets from Keohane and Patch before the Lasers secured the victory with a Duclos, resulting in the 61-48 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Keohane with a game best 16 points and four rebounds
  • Smith-Akpan added ten points, eight caroms, three assists, two steals and one block
  • For the Lasers, Duclos finished with a team-leading 12 points, six boards and five steals
  • Mack chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals
  • Fitchburg State shot 17-for-49 (34.7%) from the field and (4-of-16) 25.0% from three-point range
  • Lasell went 23-of-74 (31.1%) overall and (7-for-29) 24.1% for beyond the arc
  • Lasers finished with a 47-37 margin on the glass
